Terry Ward

Terry Ward graduated from West Point in 1984, ready to begin his military career. From 1985 to 1988, he served as a border guard and scout on the East and West German border with the 1st Tank, 2nd Infantry Division. During this time, he honed his tactical skills and showcased exceptional leadership.

Ward continued his service from 1988 to 1989 as a maintenance officer along the North and South Korean border. His role required precision and dedication, qualities that defined his military journey.

Heroism in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield

During Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield in 1990 and 1991, Ward served as a tactical operations officer for the 4-64 Armor, 24th Infantry Division. His leadership and strategic acumen contributed to the success of the tank battalion. For his efforts, he earned the Bronze Star and appeared on The Today Show with Willard Scott and in U.S. News & World Report.

In 1992, Ward commanded a tank company at Fort Stewart, Georgia, achieving the rank of captain. After nearly a decade of dedicated service, he concluded his active duty in 1993.

Transition to Civilian Leadership

After leaving the military, Ward entered the operations and engineering sectors. Drawing on his military experience, he led teams in manufacturing car and truck parts and later operating room equipment.

Ward became a mentor, guiding team members through their professional growth. His ability to inspire and develop others reflected the same leadership he demonstrated in the military.

Community Involvement and Impact

Terry Ward has been deeply involved in his community. For over a decade, he has volunteered with the Harrisonburg Soccer League, taking on roles as a coach, age group coordinator, and president. Through his efforts, he has shaped the lives of many young athletes.

Additionally, Ward has contributed to the Byrd Park Civic League, where he served as vice president. He remains active with the Friends of Byrd Park, enhancing neighborhood initiatives and fostering a sense of community.
