Stephen Newman

Stephen Newman enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December 2008, driven by a desire to make a difference after witnessing the events of 9/11 as a middle schooler. The memory of the Twin Towers’ collapse stayed with him, fueling his decision to serve his country during a time of war. By January 2009, Stephen was at boot camp, beginning his journey to becoming a Marine.

Achievements During Military Service

Stephen rose to the rank of Sergeant while completing two tours in Afghanistan with the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. His dedication and leadership earned him meritorious promotions to Lance Corporal and Corporal. Recognized for his exceptional actions in combat, Stephen received Navy and Marine Achievement Medals.

Transition to Civilian Life

After his honorable discharge, Stephen joined DuPont, an American chemical company. He began as an operator and quickly advanced to a mechanic role, where he continues to excel. The discipline and problem-solving skills he developed in the military remain central to his success. Stephen applies these traits daily, meeting challenges head-on and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.

Dedication to Veterans and Community

Stephen actively supports fellow veterans through his involvement with organizations such as Fallen Outdoors and the Wounded Warrior Project. These groups provide crucial resources and opportunities for veterans to connect and heal. Additionally, Stephen is working toward membership in the American Legion Post 354, further strengthening his ties to the veteran community.

Justin Kellaway from our Powhatan, VA office proudly presented Stephen with an award celebrating his exceptional service and continued commitment to others. Whether in the military, at work, or within his community, Stephen exemplifies resilience, leadership, and dedication.
