
Ronald Howard
Veteran Ronald Howard grew up in a military family and always dreamed of serving his country. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1991. He served for four years with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, a Marine Expeditionary Unit Special Operations Capable (MEUSOC) unit stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. Ronald was deployed to Kuwait and Somalia during his time in the Marines. While in Somalia, he met President George Bush Sr. and was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal for his operational leadership.
After leaving the Marines, Ronald pursued a career in law enforcement, inspired by his patriotism and gratefulness to our country. He has been with the Harrisonburg Police Department for 26.5 years, including 20 years with the HPD SWAT Team. He has also served on the Civil Disturbance Unit and as a Field Training Officer.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Howard is a dedicated community volunteer. He has participated in a variety of community activities, including:
- Police Memorial Week
- Shenandoah Valley Autism Race
- Drug Take Back Initiative
- Special Olympics
- And many more events and initiatives benefiting the Harrisonburg, Virginia area.
