Matthew Oermann, a dedicated US Army veteran, recently returned home from Iraq after completing a deployment that lasted from December 2021 to November 2022. During this time, he served as part of the counter rocket, artillery, and mortar group, playing a crucial role in Operation Inherent Resolve. His courageous service and determination earned him the rank of first lieutenant. One of the most meaningful aspects of his deployment was the birth of his daughter, Palmer, who arrived while Matthew was overseas. To honor his service, Palmer received the flag that was flown during Operation Inherent Resolve.
Matthew’s journey to the Army began in high school, where he was an active member of his ROTC program. This experience instilled in him a sense of duty, discipline, and the desire to serve his country. After graduating from high school, Matthew enlisted in the Army to improve himself and build a stronger future. His time in the military taught him valuable leadership skills, which continue to benefit him today.
In 2017, Matthew graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, with a degree in applied economic management. Upon completing his military service, he transitioned into the technology sector and now works with Verizon. His experience in the Army and the leadership qualities he developed have shaped his successful career.
Matthew’s service, both in the military and as a father and professional, exemplifies resilience, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence. His commitment to his family and his career continues to inspire those around him.
Matthew was honored with the Hometown Hero Award by Loan Officer Kimberly Thagholm at ALCOVA Mortgage’s Locust Grove, VA branch. His story is a powerful reminder of the impact of service and the importance of community.
