Captain Matt Brown has dedicated 35 years to protecting his country and community. His career began right after high school when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a Military Police Officer. This experience instilled in him discipline, leadership, and a strong commitment to public safety—qualities that would define his career in law enforcement.

A Distinguished Law Enforcement Career

In 1994, Captain Brown transitioned to law enforcement, joining the Cobb County Police Department. Over the years, he served in high-impact leadership roles across various specialized units, including:

  • Special Operations
  • Crimes Against Persons and Children
  • Internal Affairs Investigations
  • Major Crimes Unit Commander

Through his dedication, leadership, and expertise, he earned multiple promotions, rising through the ranks before retiring in 2025.

Recognized for Bravery and Public Service

Captain Brown’s exceptional service and heroism earned him numerous law enforcement awards and commendations, including:

  • Medal of Valor – For rescuing a citizen from a burning vehicle in the Windy Hill Road Tunnel.
  • 300 Club Award – Recognizing his bravery in high-risk situations.
  • Bureau Commendation – For his role in evacuating residents from a burning apartment building.
  • Chief’s Award – Honoring his dedication to child protection through the Safepath Children’s Advocacy Center.

For over a decade, Captain Brown received outstanding performance ratings, reflecting his unwavering dedication to justice and public safety.

Fighting Human Trafficking and Protecting the Vulnerable

Even after retirement, Captain Brown continues his mission to protect the most vulnerable. He currently serves as Deputy Director of a state agency focused on human trafficking prevention, leveraging his extensive experience in criminal investigations to combat human trafficking networks and support victims.

Community Leadership and Law Enforcement Advocacy

Beyond his professional achievements, Captain Brown is an Executive Board Member for Blue Thanksgiving, a nonprofit organization supporting law enforcement officers and their families. His mentorship, advocacy, and community involvement further demonstrate his lifelong dedication to public service.
