U.S. Coast Guard Service: Kris Gholson’s Military Career

Kris Gholson is a retired military veteran and dedicated software entrepreneur whose career is a testament to his commitment to discipline, leadership, and teamwork. Kris began his journey at the Coast Guard Academy from 1990 to 1994, where he embraced the values of service and discipline. After graduating, Kris served on the USCGC Madrona in Charleston, SC, from 1994 to 1996, before transitioning to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C. from 1996 to 1999.

His devotion to service didn’t stop there. In 2001, Kris was recalled to active duty and served at the Marine Safety Office in Houston, TX, until 2007, further demonstrating his commitment to protecting and serving his country.

Transition to Rugby: Leadership Beyond the Military

After retiring from the military, Kris Gholson channeled his leadership and teamwork skills into the sport of Rugby, an activity that not only defined his personal life but also helped shape his post-military community impact. Kris and his wife, who share a deep love for Rugby, met through the sport and recently celebrated 26 years of marriage.

Kris’s passion for Rugby led him to found the Wando Rugby Club in Charleston, SC, where he served as President for two years. Under his leadership, the club thrived, expanding both the boys’ and girls’ teams. The girls’ team, in particular, achieved great success, advancing to the National Championship in the past year.

Building Community Through Rugby: A Legacy of Leadership

In addition to his role at Wando Rugby, Kris and his wife host beach Rugby every Sunday during the summer on Sullivan’s Island, creating a positive and inclusive environment for young athletes. Their unique approach—playing hard on the field and then hosting the opposing team for a meal afterward—has fostered a sense of unity and camaraderie within the Rugby community.

Kris’s leadership has had a profound impact on the lives of many young adults, teaching them the value of teamwork, respect, and community building both on and off the field. His unwavering commitment to bettering his community has made him a respected figure in the Charleston area.
