Jordan Downhour was born in Lancaster, Ohio, and graduated from Northside High School in Roanoke, VA, in June 2010. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, dedicating himself to serving his country. In December 2012, while serving in Eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border, Jordan was severely wounded in a roadside IED blast. This blast caused a traumatic brain injury, a life-changing event that would impact him in ways unimaginable. Despite the severe injury, Jordan received the Purple Heart for his sacrifice and bravery.
After sustaining these injuries, Jordan Downhour was released from active duty in August 2014. Due to the nature of his injuries, he struggled to recover in the military environment, which led to his transition out of the Army. Since that day, Jordan has faced the challenges of normal life, a daily struggle he continues to tackle with resilience and determination. His perseverance is a testament to his strength and character.
Jordan Downhour is not only a courageous soldier but also a loving husband and father. He and his wife, also named Jordan, have been married for two years and have two sons, Jamison and Jalin. The Downhour family now resides in Buchanan, VA, where they support each other through the challenges of daily life.

I have seen his everyday struggles and how he has responded to them, and it is an amazing sight. The way this man manages his life and injuries is and should be an inspiration to everyone!”
