Geneo Graves began his military service in October 1984, joining the U.S. Army. His first challenge was basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas. After completing this rigorous training, he moved to Fort Lee, Virginia, for Advanced Individual Training (AIT). He then attended Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Following this, Geneo joined the 82nd Combat Aviation Battalion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His commitment to excellence took him to jungle school at Fort Sherman, Panama.

Special Operations Command

In March 1985, Geneo Graves received a significant assignment with Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg. He earned a promotion to Sergeant E-5 in less than 18 months, thanks to his hard work and dedication. In December 1987, Geneo deployed to Germany, where he served with the Allied Mobile Special Operations Command. His service during the Cold War included numerous covert operations across Europe.

Combat Training and Leadership Roles

Geneo’s experience expanded when he joined the 160th Special Operations Aviation Battalion in 1990. During his time with the unit, he attended Air Assault School and specialized in light and heavy weapons. Geneo later became the weapons and hand-to-hand combat instructor at Fort Campbell. He played a pivotal role in combat operations while assigned to D Company, 160th Special Operations Aviation in Panama, actively supporting the War on Drugs.

Army Reserves and Deployment

In 1996, Geneo Graves transitioned to the Army Reserves, where he joined an MP unit in West Virginia. Later, he was reassigned to a Medical Unit in Richmond, Virginia. His career took another turn when he joined the 92nd Combat Camera Unit in Georgia. From 2003 to 2005, Geneo deployed to Kuwait and Iraq, contributing to the War on Terrorism.

Retirement and Legacy

In 2013, Geneo Graves retired from the military after serving with the Florida National Guard at Camp Blanding. He worked with a Natural Disaster Quick Response Unit. Throughout his career, he received numerous honors, including two Meritorious Service Medals and seven Commendation Medals. Geneo’s service continues to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
