A Proud Military Start

Born in Atlanta, GA, in 1926, Emmett Wright Jr. began his remarkable journey by enlisting in the United States Naval Air Force after graduating from North Fulton High School. During his two years of military service, Emmett specialized in communications, proudly contributing to his country.

A Passion for Teaching and History

After completing his service, Emmett pursued his passion for education. He enrolled at Furman University in Greenville, SC, to study history and later earned a master’s degree in history from Emory University. Emmett began teaching history and coaching men’s basketball at West Fulton High School. Afterward, he transitioned to Westminster Schools in Georgia, where he continued to teach and coach before moving to Woodberry Forest School. His leadership skills eventually led him to Metairie Park, where he served as Headmaster for four years. In 1974, Emmett returned to Woodberry Forest School as Headmaster, a position he held until his retirement in 1991.

A Legacy of Mentorship and Dedication

While Emmett’s professional highlights include leading his team to a State Championship in 1967 and serving as Headmaster at Woodberry Forest School, his true legacy lies in the impact he made as a mentor and educator.
