Dennis Tait
Dennis Tait is a retired US Air Force Sergeant who served his country from 1964 to 1968. After leaving the military, he worked for Export Leaf Tobacco Company for over 30 years, starting in the Green Leaf Accounting Department before transitioning to Data Processing and ultimately becoming the Senior Supervisor of Computer Operations for the entire company.
Upon retirement, Dennis moved to Lake Waccamaw, where he quickly became involved in the community through volunteer work with various organizations. He worked with the local Lions Club and the Lake Waccamaw Food Ministry before dedicating much of his time to the Hallsboro Baptist Men’s group’s Rails & Ramps program, building handicap ramps for those in need.
Dennis is known throughout the community for his willingness to help others, and his dedication to the Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum is no exception. He has been volunteering with the museum since 2019, working on the landscaping and the grounds. His efforts have transformed the museum’s exterior, and it will be featured on a garden tour this year. According to Karen Gore, the museum’s curator, Dennis is an invaluable resource and an integral part of the museum’s operations.
Dennis Tait’s commitment to service, both to his country and his community, is an inspiration to all who know him. Branch Manager Russell Smith, from our ALCOVA Mortgage Whiteville, NC branch was honored to surprise Dennis with his Hometown Hero Award during their branch opening event!
