The U.S. Army drafted Dennis Hanna in 1966. He answered the call to serve without hesitation. Dennis served with the 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated courage, resilience, and selfless dedication.
During his deployment, Dennis saved the life of a fellow soldier named John. That act reflected the character and bravery he carried throughout his military service. A combat injury ended Dennis’ time in the Army earlier than expected. The Army awarded Dennis the Purple Heart in recognition of his sacrifice before he returned home.
Today, ALCOVA Mortgage proudly recognizes Dennis Hanna through the ALCOVA Hometown Heroes program. His story honors the sacrifice made by Vietnam veterans and reminds us of the lasting impact of military service.
After returning home, Dennis worked in an electrical factory in Ohio for two years. He later returned to West Virginia, where he joined his father on the family’s dairy farm. Together, they operated the farm for the next 25 years.
Later, Dennis started his own painting business. For more than 20 years, he served homeowners throughout the community with dependable craftsmanship and honest work. Friends, neighbors, and customers knew they could count on him whenever they needed help. Even after retiring, Dennis still enjoys taking on the occasional painting project.
Dennis never stopped serving others. After his military career, he found new ways to give back to his West Virginia community.
For many years, Dennis coached youth basketball. He also volunteered with the local Ruritan Youth Basketball League. Through both roles, he helped young athletes build confidence, discipline, and teamwork. In addition, Dennis served in youth ministry at his local church. He spent years mentoring and encouraging the next generation.
Today, Dennis enjoys retirement and spending time with his family. Even so, his influence continues throughout the community he has served for decades.
Dennis has always led with humility, hard work, and a servant’s heart. He served his country during the Vietnam War. He helped operate a family dairy farm. He built a successful painting business.
